Adam Wallace Art - Fairy Liquid 1 Painting

Fairy Liquid 1   2019   [165 x 140 cm]

Oil paint on stretched canvas. The left hand panel of a tryptych painting, despicting a headless, male figure, (a contemporary Ac├ęphale), holding a banner image of a man washing his genitals in a bathtub. The figure is barefoot, and floats above a grass lawn, comprising blades of grass, meadow flowers and fungi, against a starlit sky. The work presents an intended figure of innocence, prior to trauma, a gloved hand performs a ritual of cleansing, while in the inner image, a private moment revealed: the baring of body as means of access to the soul.

Adam Wallace Art - Fairy Liquid 2 Painting

Fairy Liquid 2  2019   [80 x 65 cm]

Oil paint on latex mounted on MDF board. The middle image of the tryptych is the inner image of Fairy Liquid repeated, but this time as a moment of trauma. Identical legs, covered with blood, are shown in the same, but this time waterless, bathroom, while this time the hand holds a needle not a wash-cloth, and on the rim of the bath rests drug paraphenalia. This is the moment of catharsis, the loss of innocence, the event horizon that ends one life's timeline and begins another, propelling the figure away from the barefoot child resting in Arcadia, towards something entirely new. The painting is grounded on thick latex rubber mounted on MDF, to create a sense of embodiment.

Fairy Liquid 3 (Lemon Cif)  2019   [165 x 140 cm]

Oil paint on stretched canvas. The right panel of the tryptych, the post-trauma Acephale stands in an urban enviroment, dressed in scruffy modern streetwear, hoody, jeans and skate shoes. No longer floating, his shod feet rest firmly on ashphalt, beneath a jaundiced cadmium yellow, starless sky. His banner, also depicting the revelation of private moments, shows a multitude of bodies engaged in sexual activity. While the initial impression might be that this is a figure of licentiousness and liberation, the traumatised individual reveals his inner image banded across by purple stripes, representing the flickering of a screen, depicting a lonely world of isolation and shallow encounters.
